The “Thank you” slide is the most boring conclusion of a presentation possible
Avoid one of the biggest deadly sins of presenting.
The most important parts of your presentation are the beginning and the ending: You initially raise the interest of your audience and in closing you anchor your message in them. So you should think of something good and memorable for both parts.
“Thank you very much for your attention” is a bland, stale phrase, especially with the reference to “attention”. Here your audience will more likely think of a boring school lesson than an exciting presentation.
Alternatives for the thank you slide
The final slide of the presentation is usually still on display during the following discussion or whilst answering questions. The information displayed there must therefore be striking and important:
- Mention the core statement of your presentation on the final slide.
- Collect the three to five central points on the final slide.
In the financial services sector, address data and a disclaimer frequently have to be incorporated in the final slide. If this is the case, make sure you do not leave this one showing as your last slide.
